Spring Yarn Wreath Tutorial {and a give-a-way!}

Since it was getting a bit warmer out, I had to take down my winter yarn wreath.  It was so pretty and I was sad for a moment, until I realized what that meant...now I needed to make a new spring wreath!!  I got my supplies ready and got to work last night making this beautiful, happy spring wreath!
It was love at first sight...I wrapped the wreath in a spring green and made extra flowers to be placed on it.  After I was finished, I decided I didn't like the white wrapping around the big pink flower, but it was too late :/ But I will love it still.  I hung this wreath on the front door and it looks fab.

Here's what you will need to make this wreath:

wreath (I used a straw wreath, which gives a slightly "bumpy" feel to it, which I like for certain wreaths. Also, they are MUCH cheaper and fatter)
1-2 skeins of yarn (I used green)
Lots of felt (I used yellow, pink, orange and white for the flowers and two shades of green for the leaves)
hot glue, scissors and a piece of ribbon to hang it

Wrap the yarn around the wreath.  You can go around once and be sure that no wreath is showing or twice, which will use more yarn.  I wrapped once but would go back after a few inches of wrapping and re wrap any layers that had spaces.  Do you see how the wreath's edges aren't completely smooth?  This is what I mean by "bumpy".  If you use a straw wreath, leave the plastic ON.

I made two different kinds of flowers, some rolled felt flowers and some "mums".  To make the rolled felt flowers, make a circle and spiral cut until you have a small circle left in the middle.  Then, hot glue and roll starting from the outermost end (not the small circle end).  The larger the circle you start with, the larger the finsihed flower!  I had a few different sizes of flower for this wreath.

Ta-da!  Easy and pretty. I refer to this as the "rolled felt flower".

To make the "mum" style, cut a strip of two inch wide felt, the longer the felt, the larger the flower.  Fold it in half and glue it together, with the glue ONLY being by the outside, not the inside by the fold.

Cut little slits from the fold to the outside, but not through it!

Roll and glue it, just like the rolled felt flower.  I also made a few different sizes of these as well and also made some that had a single layer of a contrasting color around the outside.

Arrange the flowers on the size how you like, gluing some leaves under the outer ones.  Tie your ribbon to the top and you are done!  I LOVE this wreath (except that dang white part which is all I keep seeing!).  It looks so nice on my front door.  We have a fairly large overhang, so I'm not worried about the rain getting it (and the fact that it hardly rains).

Now, onto the fun part!  I bought enough supplies to make ANOTHER spring wreath (minus that weird white part!) and I would like to share the love and give it away to one of my fellow wreath loving readers!

**If you would like a chance to win this gorgeous wreath (that sell on Etsy for over $40 by the way!) then SHARE this link either on Facebook or Twitter and leave me a comment below ON THE BLOG telling me you did so!  If you love me a whole lot, then feel free to share on both!!!**

This give-a-way will end on this Friday the 8th at 7:00pm (AZ time).  I will randomly choose a winner and announce them on Friday.

Good luck and happy sharing!! <3

Dirty Girl Mud Run!!

Today I ran the Dirty Girl Mud Run with 9 other lovely ladies.  It was SO much fun!  We didn't all know each other to start, but by the end we were always remember each other as Team Superboobies!

I was asked by Dirty Girl to help promote the race and to get a team together and I was happy to do so, since this type of race is right up my alley!

This race is a 5k and was a lot of fun.  It was at Old Tucson Studios so the terrain was rugged and deserty.  The obstacles weren't very challenging, but certainly made for lots of laughs from our team!!  There were quite a few watery ones, and the water was COLD!  One, we had to climb under a very low net crawling through the muddy water.  It was so funny.  We really enjoyed ourselves.

If you are looking for a fun and not too challenging of a race to do with your ladies, this one is for you!  The girls I was running with had never done one of these races before and they all agreed it was the perfect for beginners.

Here are some pictures from all the fun we had!

There was lots of music and a great atmosphere!

Add another race bib to my collection!  Since this race benefited the National Breast Cancer Foundation, I dedicated my run to the memory of my mama. <3

Here's half our Superboobie team ready to go!

Woot!

This was my friend Wendy's first race ever, and I was SO proud of her doing it!  She did AH-mazing!

Team Superboobies finishes strong!
There wasn't as much mud as I thought...they should add more next time!

Celebratory beer!

Two more friends, Kim and Lisa, who were running a mud run for the first time...way to go ladies!

We got these adorable shirts to boot!  I'm still wearing mine now :)

Overall, we had a blast!  So many laughs and we got some running in as well.

Check out Dirty Girl Mud Run online:

I would definitely love to run this race again next year!  Plenty of running, laughs, sunshine, girliness...and some free beer, all for a great cause - now what's better than that?!?

Disclosure: In exchange for blogging pre- and post this event, I received a complimentary entry fee and a discount for my my fellow runner team mates! All opinions are my own :)

Happies and Crappies #4

The Vintage Modern Wife: Happies and Crappies Link Up

It's Happies and Crappies time!!

Happy Friday everyone! How was your week??  Here is a sneak peak into mine:

Happies:
- I FINALLY got my link up button to work!!! Yahooo!!! Thanks Nicole!

- I finished the Tough Mudder!! Whoo-wooo!  I am SO glad it's done and over with, haha!  It was challenging, both physically and mentally.  As I was running in the FREEZING, and I mean FREEZING weather soaking wet, I told my husband "I am NEVER doing this again!".  Now that I am thawed out, I realize that I actually would like to do it again- ONLY in a warmer climate!  Like in the middle of the summer.
before...so happy and full of aspirations

Mr. Pea...ready to go

WTF just happened and why can't I feel my body?? And why is my shirt 3 sizes bigger??

Mr. Pea and his bestie...these faces explain it all :)

- Jacob had Kindergarten Round Up!!  This is a day in the spring where up and coming kinder families can come and meet the teachers and learn what kindergarten will entail.  This is my second baby to go to kindergarten so we know all the tips and tricks but it still is very exciting.  We have the BEST kinder team at our school and we are looking forward to the upcoming year!

Look at this pea!  All excited...and still holding his little monkey that he has loved since he was born :)

Getting acquainted to the tables in kinder!

Jacob met Comet the Coyote!  He was so excited!

- I have ANOTHER race this Saturday- The Dirty Girl Mud Run!  This will be SO fun and I am praying for a warmer morning :)  I am running with a group of gals that are doing this for the first time, and I am so honored to be with them on their flagship race.

- I ran 80 miles in the month of February!  That gives me a total of 144.8 for the year towards the goal of hitting 1,000 by the end of 2013.  I am aiming for at least 90 miles in March, let's see about that!

- Mr. Pea insisted I get a pedicure and a massage yesterday! WOW! What a treat!  I hadn't had a pedi since Jan 30, 2010 (the day before I had Hannah) and hadn't had a massage since I was preggers with Jacob, so bother were overdue!  It was AH-mazing and my toes look AH-dorable. Thanks Mr. Pea!

Crappies:

- Jacob got his first ear infection this week :(  He had to miss school yesterday and was so sad about it.  I hate when my kids are sick!  A warm up is around the corner so hopefully these sick buggies can get the f*%& out of here!

- I didn't lose any weight this week...boo!  I have 6lbs I'd like to lose.  I was VERY sore after the Mudder so I pretty much took it easy this week...which meant no running...which meant to a zero pound weight loss.  Tomorrow I'm going to be hitting the treadmill since Mr. Pea is working, unless I can find a babysitter!!! Any takers?!?!

I hope you had a great week too!!

Say my name {link up}

This is a link up with Stephanie, Amber and Amanda!

The story behind my blog title is pretty self-explanatory.  I have three kiddies, also known as my peas (get it, three peas in a pod?? ha), and this blog is about our life; hence My Three Peas.  I like to blog about a variety of things: the ups and downs of being a mother and all the fun and not so fun things we do everyday.  Also,  I like to sprinkle in some of my other passions like crafting, recipes, running and DIY.

I began my blog after much deliberation.  I created the title on Blogger almost a year before I began writing it.  I thought it sounded fun but figured no one would want to read it so why bother?? My mother said it would be a great idea and that she would love to read it.  Fast forward to about 6 months and my mom, who was my only parent I had ever known, passed away very unexpectedly from stage 4 breast cancer.  When I finally decided to write it took a little pushing from my friend Courtney and some inspiration in my ear from my mama...and thus, My Three Peas was born!

Blogging is a like an escape for me.  Being a stay at home mom (former teacher) very little time in my day is devoted to ME.  Writing my blog is my hobby and I enjoy doing it!  It also helps to keep my family, whom reside in Massachusetts, up to date on our lives.

In honor of My Three Peas, here are some pictures of my three peas: Abigail, Jacob and Hannah.

Thanks world for reading my blog! Someday, I hope my peas enjoy it as well.

Top ten Tuesday: Things I'm sick of saying

Ever feel like a broken record??  I certainly do, everyday.

Here's the current top ten things I'm seriously sick of saying:

1. Put your toys away.

2. Stop drawing "around" you paper, and please draw ON it.

3. Flush the toilet.

4. No, you cannot wear shorts, it's 30 degrees out and you are sick.

5. Wipe the snot off your face.

6. Please wipe your bum after you go poop.

7. Get out of the fridge.

8. Get out of the freezer.

9. No, I'm not buying that.

10. No, you cannot have 6 drinky yogurts a day.

I could go on and on and on and on and on but I am out of time....what are you currently sick of saying???  It can't possibly be any worse that #6?!?!

Happies and Crappies! #3

Happies and Crappies!!

How was every one's week??  Here's what I did!

Happies:
* Snow!  We had 5 inches of snow this week, which is unusual for Tucson, to say the least.  Being a native New Englander I am no stranger to snow and miss it every winter.  It was fun to have it fall for a whole day and also to watch the peas play in it.

Now THAT is some snow!

* Rodeo break: The peas were off of school yesterday and today and while we didn't travel anywhere, we did get to go out to lunch and over to the zoo.

* The Tough Mudder is this Sunday!!  Wow, that came fast!  I am excited to make it through this colossal muddy race with Mr. Pea by my side...it should be fun!!

Crappies:

* The peas appear to be getting sick, AGAIN.  Nothing like the last crud that came through the house but still coughs and runny noses are a plenty.

*The Tough Mudder is this Sunday!!  Holy crap, that SERIOUSLY came fast.  I am SUPER nervous about certain obstacles, like the giant wall Everest.  I am praying I don't smack my face against it :/ Wish me luck...I may need it.

Yea, this beast here.  It says "no quit in here", so does that mean I can't go around it?!?

Hopefully next week's Happies and Crappies won't all be crappies about how crappy I feel because I smacked my face on the wall!

And...again for some strange reason, STILL cannot get the link up button to actually LINK so please check out

My goal is to have this figured out for next week :)

Downeast basics blogger mixer!

This week, some blogging buddies and I were invited to come check out the new spring line of clothes at Downeast Basics!  It was oodles of fun mingling and chatting...oh, and shopping too!  And what's more fun that that!!

Our local store is in the Tucson Mall, upstairs by Penny's.  I have been in the store before and I like it's "boutique" feel.  All the clothes are organized by color and style so it's easy to be drawn to each section.  I, of course, was drawn to the blue and greens...and they had lots of new spring green items to choose from!

Their clothes are, what I would describe as "preppy sheik".  They are classic pieces that can be paired with many items, which makes putting together outfits a breeze.  It's like a grown-up version of Forever 21 ;)  They are feminine and stylish, acceptable for work, shopping or going out with friends or just the kiddies.  The BEST thing is that they are AFFORDABLE, which is a MAJOR plus in my book!  Being a stay at home mom means I am on a budget, but I still like to look cute!  Downeast Basics is the perfect place to shop for that.

They had a nice clearance section as well, where they had some of their fall/winter items on sale for great prices!

When you have found your perfect outfit, they had a large section of clearance and regular priced jewelry and accessories to wrap it all together!

Here is my adorable friend Courtney shopping with me!!  She can make any outfit look fabulous :)

Here is part of my new green outfit. The boat neck 3/4 lenght tee is SUPER soft and comfy.  Perfect for any season.  Behind it, is my new favorite cardigan sweater.  It had cutie-patootie stripes and is thin enough for a Tucson summer evening.  Also, it was long, which I LOVE.  I don't tops that are too short.  I paired it with some uber-comfy black fleece-lined leggings.  Holy comfortable!!  Wearing these makes people wonder...hmmm...did she just get off the treadmill or had she been this fashionable since she woke up?!?  No one will know :)  I also snagged a pair of silvery blue leggings as well.  I found an additional coupon to use {of course!} so I was a happy camper!

Here we are! Aren't we cute??  Don't be deceived...I am NOT sleeping...not quite sure what's happening with my eyes though!  Courtney, Anabelle and I had a blast shopping and are already over due for another shopping date :)

So if you are in the market for some new ADORABLE and well-priced spring clothes, head over to Downeast and check them out!!
